My name is Lissan Aklog, and as a senior at the University of Akron pursuing my BA in Marketing, I can confidently say I am not the same person who walked onto campus four years ago.
To be honest, I didn’t always have a ‘Plan A’ for college. My hesitation didn’t stem from a lack of interest, but from a very real fear of the unknown. I worried about the weight of expectations, the fear of being alone, and the pressure of choosing the right path. But through that uncertainty, I found my rhythm.
I wish I had a cinematic story about discovering my passion for marketing, but the truth is more grounded: my love for this field grew block-by-block, through every late-night project and every deep dive into consumer behavior. I knew I had found my calling when I started seeing marketing everywhere in my day-to-day life, a shift that turned a degree into a lens through which I see the world.
By leaning into uncomfortable situations and befriending like-minded peers, I’ve transformed my initial fear into a strategy for growth. I created this site to share the roles I’ve held and the specific knowledge I’ve gained from each. As I step into this next chapter, I’m doing so with a completely redefined mindset. I’ve learned that waiting for the ‘perfect’ moment is a trap, and that being ‘ready’ is often an illusion. I no longer hold back from new experiences out of a fear of the unknown, because I know that perfection can never prepare you for the reality of uncertainty. I am eager to bring this adaptability and drive to a team where I can continue expanding my capabilities and tackling the challenges of the modern marketing landscape.
